Fashion Trends for Summer 2017
I love summer! I love the sunshine, trips to the beach and easy, breezy summer fashion. Fashion takes on a more casual, laid-back tone in summer. 2017’s fashion trends are no exception.
Boho isn’t a new trend, but it takes on a different character in summer. Think peasant blouses and long flowy skirts. Layers of delicate jewelry and comfortable, flat sandals. My particular favourite piece of the boho trend is the peasant blouse. It’s easy, forgiving styling so you don’t have to forgo that ice cream cone. It tends to be light and airy fabrics, perfect for sweltering days. I think this style looks best in muted tones as opposed to bright and bold patterns. Throw on some mirrored aviators, layer the delicate chains and slip on flip flops to accessorize.
The Cold Shoulder
Show off that tan and showcase those shoulders. This trend from last year continues this year, with several variations. I’m seeing lots of tops and dresses that are off the shoulder with lots of ruffles. It’s a great look for casual daytime or date-night but it’s a look that’s a little too sexy for the office. The cold shoulder trend is a little more office appropriate, particularly when it involves cut-outs at the shoulder but either has a full sleeve or thick straps. These tops lend themselves to the bold colours and patterns of the season: poppy red, bright green, plummy purple or tangerine.
Flowy Unstructured Blouses
This style looks good on just about everyone. Put on your favourite tank or cami and layer on a semi-sheer, soft and flowy unstructured blouse, preferably with an asymmetrical hem. These tops look amazing with capris but also pair well with shorts (just make sure they are a more tailored fit and on the long side) or a fitted skirt.
The truth is you can’t go too far wrong in the summer as long as you are cool, comfortable and showing just enough skin. Soak up the season and enjoy the holiday vibe.
