I always take fashion blogs with a grain of salt. It’s all well and good to say that this year is the year of Victorian collars and big shoulder pads. The reality though is that most of us won’t embrace anything on the extreme end. We want to stay on trend but not be so trendy that people think we are weird. In my opinion, it only takes a few pieces to make your wardrobe seem refreshed. So – here’s my take on fall trends from a practical, everygirl standpoint.
Extend the life of your summer wardrobe and change it up by adding different accessories and layers. With the trend of florals on dark backgrounds extending into fall, pair your dark floral summer dress with some boots and an open cardigan and you are good to go! Plaid is always a go-to in fall and this year is no exception. 70’s inspired plaids are big – unusual colour combos and larger prints. I love plaid jackets for the office or a plaid skirt over knee high boots. Chilly weather brings on layered dressing- think soft, long sleeve T’s under a trendy poncho, blanket cardigan or short sleeved sweater. Faux fur is also big this season in the form of big collars, hats and gloves. Add a colourful fur collar to give last year’s coat a new twist. Colour-wise I’m seeing lots of power red, chocolate brown, cobalt blue, burgundy and grape. Have some fun with the season and add a few new pieces to spice things up.
